About Nashville Kung Fu
Practical Wing Chun. Honest Training. Genuine Community.
Nashville Kung Fu is a welcoming adult martial arts community built around practical Wing Chun, steady personal growth, and genuine connection.
The school exists for everyday people who want to learn a meaningful skill, improve their movement and confidence, and become part of a respectful community. Training is serious and focused, but the environment is approachable, encouraging, and free from the ego often associated with fight gyms.
Wing Chun remains the foundation of everything we teach. Students learn traditional forms, structure, footwork, striking, partner drills, and practical applications while developing greater awareness, coordination, discipline, and confidence over time.
Meet Ken Smart
Owner, Head Instructor
Ken Smart teaches Wing Chun with a focus on structure, efficiency, timing, and practical application.
His training background includes extensive work through EBMAS, along with instruction and influence from respected Wing Chun teachers including Emin Boztepe, Chad Winn, Thommy Luke Boehlig, and Shawn Wallace. Today, Ken continues to lead Nashville Kung Fu with a practical, adult-focused approach to martial arts training.
Ken’s goal is not to overpromise what martial arts can do. Instead, his focus is on helping students develop strong fundamentals, better movement, clearer awareness, and lasting confidence through steady work over time.
Some want practical self-defense skills. Others are looking for a more enjoyable way to stay active, reduce stress, improve coordination, or challenge themselves mentally and physically. Many simply want to meet good people and become part of a community that encourages steady growth. Nashville Kung Fu brings those goals together through traditional training that remains relevant to everyday life.
The goal is not to create fear or make unrealistic promises. It is to help students become more focused, more confident, more capable, and more connected through consistent practice.

Traditional principles with everyday relevance.
Wing Chun is a direct and efficient martial art known for its close-range structure, economical movement, and practical approach to timing and positioning.
Students train the traditional foundations of the system while also exploring how its principles relate to modern situations. This may include awareness, personal space, confined environments, close-range movement, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Practical application is an important part of the training, but it does not replace the broader value of Kung Fu. Forms, movement, coordination, discipline, and personal development remain central to the school.
